How To Find An Affordable House In Merida, Mexico

Last Saturday I did something new. I strapped on my camera harness, put in my new camera, and took the MexitPlanners with me for a walk through one of the many neighborhoods in north Merida, Mexico, Montealban. Because the weather is so beautiful from November to April in Merida, Mexico, I walk 3-4 times a week for about 3 miles each time. It's an incredible way to learn about a city, and it really allows me to uncover some hidden gems.

One of the best pieces of information I gather from these walks is that there are many houses for rent or sale that are not listed on any website. The real estate market here is a bit of the wild west. There is no central MLS system, many of the homes can and will be represented by multiple agents, and some of the best properties are never listed online. If a house does appear online, you may see it in multiple places or the same site with different prices and varying descriptions. These things make it very difficult to find a home if you are not in the city.

So strapped with my camera and Hoka running shoes, I set out for my normal walk, but this time with the purpose to show you how to find an affordable house in one of the best areas of Merida. This walk gave me some incredible footage of the MonteAlban neighborhood. The neighborhood is quiet, minus the barking dogs. There is not a lot of traffic cutting through the interior streets. It is located to a lot of local eateries and food stands. It is located near the Urban Center shopping mall, which has the best upscale grocery store in town, Super Chedraui Selecto. The Urban Center also has a nice Starbucks, where you will find me most mornings on the patio during my walk, an Office Depot, Petco, Radio Shack, and Sonora Grill. Directly across from MonteAlban is Parque Kalia, which is a very nice park for the kids, fitness enthusiasts, and the individual who just wants to chill in the shade and listen to the birds.

Please watch Part 1 of the video of the MonteAlban neighborhood. If you are considering moving or retiring to Merida, Mexico, the information in this video is a must-watch. Please leave me a comment and let me know if I should do more neighborhood tours. I love shows like House Hunters International, so it's my pleasure to bring you new and exciting homes and neighborhoods to see.
