We have been in Mexico now for almost 5 months and I have learned that the people here are not easily scared. With all the fear and panic happening in the USA, there doesn't seem to be the same level of fear being spread about here in Merida. There are the obvious warnings to wash your hands, stay home if you are sick, but the Mexican people seem to be more measured and careful with their approach to informing the public about what's happening with Covid-19. Could it have something to do with the superior health system here in Mexico? I am not certain. However, the response to this problem got me to thinking about the role of the media in the USA to propel fear over facts. I am not sure what the future will hold for this global pandemic. But I do know that for now, I will continue to live my best life in Mexico and pray for those that are suffering under the constant spread of fear in the USA.
